Royals Acquire Paulino From Rockies; Designate Tejada
The Royals announced tonight that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Felipe Paulino from the Rockies in exchange for cash considerations. Paulino is expected the join the Royals bullpen tomorrow as they open a three-game series in Texas against the Rangers. In a corresponding move, the club designated right-handed pitcher Robinson Tejeda for assignment.
Paulino, 27, was 0-4 in 18 relief appearances for Colorado this season with a 7.36 ERA in 14.2 innings before being designated for assignment on May 22. I
Paulino was acquired by the Rockies in exchange for infielder Clint Barmes on November 18, 2010. Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, he was originally signed by Houston as an undrafted free agent shortstop on July 2, 2001.
The 29-year-old Tejeda was 0-1 with a 6.14 ERA in nine relief appearances for Kansas City in 2011.
Braves Trade Rodrigo Lopez To Cubs For Prospect
The Braves have traded veteran right-hander Rodrigo Lopez to the Cubs in a deal for minor league left-hander Ryan Buchter, according to an Associated Press report on Thursdya.
Buchter, 24, will be assigned to the Braves’ high Class A team in Lynchburg, Va. He was a combined 4-0 with one save and a 3.38 ERA for the Cubs’ Class A Daytona and AA Tennessee teams this season.
KC Sends Gregor Blanco To Nats For Player To Be Named
The Royals have announced today that the club has traded minor league outfielder Gregor Blanco to the Nationals in exchange for a player to be named.
Blanco, 28, was hitting .196 with five doubles, four RBI, 13 run scored and nine stolen bases in 10 attempts in 23 games for the Omaha Storm Chasers entering today’s game. Blanco was acquired by the Royals from the Braves along with pitchers Tim Collins and Jesse Chavez on July 31, 2010 in exchange for pitcher Kyle Farnsworth and outfielder Rick Ankiel. He hit .274 for the Royals following the trade in 49 games, swiping 10 stolen bases in 12 attempts.
